Blue Hills Trail CONDITIONS
Spring skiing. With warm, sunny days, snow leftover from the March 5th storm is diminishing. If interested in skiing, bring your rock skis -- the base in some areas is very thin, occasional bare spots are present and growing. After an overnight freeze, try to time your skiing to take advantage of the sun and rising temps softening the surface -- try to ski before the trails get too soft for enjoyable skiing.
Early Sunday morning, classic skiing was fairly enjoyable on the East Side Core Loop where track was set Thursday (March 6th) - but you needed to step around the occasional bare spot, and walk down sun-exposed hills. The skate deck was uneven, and still skiable on trails groomed March 5th/6th (look at the grooming report below). As of Sunday morning, ungroomed side trails (Eastside & Westside) had a smooth 2-3 inches of snow for you to explore.
NOTE: there's a nasty icy spot about 200 meters east/southeast of intersection #5 on the East Side Core Loop. To most safely negotiate that section, ski the Core Loop in a counterclockwise direction (following the intersection numbers in sequence 1-2-3-4-5 etc).
IMPORTANT UPDATES
